Gone but never forgotten

Up early this morning like every morning, outside the sky was looking like it wanted to rain, just like the day Dad passed away, and that was seven years ago today.  How can it be seven years?  Sometimes it feels longer and other times it is still like just the other day.

He loved us three girls and he equally loved all his grandchildren.  Dad was the glue that held our family together.  We are not the same family without him, so much has changed over the last seven years, and not alot of it is for the better.  He would be saddened at some of it.  But he would be very proud of all of his grandchildren and he would so have loved his great grandchildren.

It is raining quite heavily outside now, just like it did on that day.  Is this a sign from you Dad?  You are on my mind today and every day. Thanks for being the good dad, a real father.   Until we meet again.

I found this funeral poem last night and it is beautiful so I am going to share it.

He is gone

You can shed tears that he is gone
Or you can smile because he has lived
You can close your eyes and pray he will come back
Or you can open your eyes and see all that he has left
Your heart can be empty because you can't see him
Or you can be full of the love that you shared
You can turn your back on tomorrow and live yesterday
Or you can be happy for tomorrow because of yesterday
You can remember him and only that he is gone
Or you can cherish his memory and let it live on
You can cry and close your mind, be empty and turn your back
Or you can do what he would want: smile, open your eyes, love and go on.

O, darling, so touching.
My parents have been gone 12 and 13 years now, and whilst I'm sort of used to it, I still get really sad...XXX

Take it easy today Sue.
I lost my Dad when I was 17 and my Mum 3 years ago ... I don't think you ever get used to it ... you just create a new normal. Like your Dad ... our Mum was the glue that held the family together ... things have certainly changed ... and not for the better ... since she's been gone.

Such a touching tribute. So hard to go through, even after so many years. I lost my Dad 14 years ago last month and it still hurts on that day. Like your dear Dad, mine seemed to be what held our small family tight and nothing was ever the same after we lost him. But we take care of Mom just the way we felt he would want us to - she comes first!

Oh Sue, I do think they pop back and visit or let us know it's all ok, I really do, and taking a big breather on those days is important - we lost Mr F's dad 3 years ago, and it's true, he was the glue too and very very missed, which is the hardest *sending big squishy hugs* x x x x

It's rubbish, isn't it, feeling so sad? My Mama has been gone 18 years and I still feel it every day.

If I were there I'd give you big hugs, love.
